Can hypnosis really work for quitting smoking? Recently Ben Affleck told Oprah exactly how he did it using hypnosis. Ellen Degeneres quit the habit using hypnosis as did Matt Damon. Drew Barrymore kicked the habit as did Charlize Theron all with hypnosis.

There are innumerable choices out there for someone seeking hypnosis to stop smoking and it's often difficult to sort through them to detect which would be best suited for you. In a review of 17 studies, it was found that long-term abstinence from smoking was most effective when several hours of treatment are combined with personalized suggestions that are tailored to the individual's desires for ending the habit, followed up with additional sessions. Given this approach, 55% to 66% of smokers remained abstinent for at least 6 months.

In contrast, when a one-session technique was used, utilizing a brief clinical history of the smoker combined with more general hypnotic suggestions such as "You owe your body this respect and protection," etc., the follow-up data revealed that only 20% out of the 615 people sampled were not smoking 6 months after the single session.
